A gyroscope that uses the property of gyroscopic rigidity to sense changes in altitude of a machine, such as an airplane; the spinning wheel or rotor is isolated from the airplane by gimbals; when the plane changes from level flight, the gyro remains vertical and gives the pilot an artificial horizon reference.

A free (unrestrained and not subject to any outside force) gyroscope is fixed to space... This means the centerline of the axle points to two points of absolute rest, 180 degrees apart, to the Universe or in the up and down direction.

OBS

... in order to be free of gravity, gyroscopes can be placed in a Cardan mount, which permits the gyroscopes to remain free of forces exerted on the systems of which they are a part. In the Cardan mount the shaft of a gyroscope wheel is mounted in a gimbal ring, which in turn is mounted in a larger gimbal ring along a diameter that is at right angles to the axis of the wheel.

Les progrès constants en radiothérapie ont tous pour but de focaliser les rayons le plus précisément possible sur la tumeur et d’épargner au maximum les tissus sains. C’est le cas de la technique de radiothérapie conformationnelle avec modulation d’intensité, forme spécialisée de radiothérapie conformationnelle dans laquelle on utilise des images scanner de la région à traiter associées à des logiciels spécifiques d’optimisation de la dose qui permettent de planifier l’irradiation de manière très ciblée. La radiothérapie conformationnelle avec modulation d’intensité consiste à faire varier la forme du faisceau et l’intensité du faisceau au cours d’une même séance pour s’adapter précisément au volume à traiter. On a recours à un dispositif spécial appelé collimateur multilames couplé à un accélérateur linéaire de particules.

Take-off guidance is provided by runway centre line lighting and marking. Once over the system, alignment guidance is excellent and operations can be safely executed in quite low visual ranges. The coded centre line for the final 900 m is most valuable in the event of aborted take-off, since the cues enable the pilot to use judgement in resorting to emergency braking procedures to stop within the confines of the runway.

Le guidage au décollage est assuré par les feux et marques d'axe de piste. Une fois que l'avion se trouve au-dessus du dispositif, le guidage d'alignement est excellent et les décollages peuvent être effectués en sécurité avec des portées visuelles très courtes. L'axe de piste codé sur les 900 derniers mètres est des plus utiles en cas de décollage interrompu, étant donné que les repères permettent au pilote de décider s'il doit recourir aux procédures de freinage d'urgence pour s'arrêter avant l'extrémité de piste.
